What Carp Café is

A café in Hang Dong, southwest of Chiang Mai's Old City, built around a large koi pond. The seats are round booths right in the water, with bridges, a small waterfall and red lanterns in the evening. You order a drink or food, get some fish food and the koi are right next to you.

What it costs

  • Entry: none
  • Fish food: 50 baht
  • Fish milk in a bottle: 70 baht
  • Food and drinks: from the menu

Opening hours and getting there

Open daily from 9:30 am to 11 pm (Google Maps, October 2026). The address is 118 Nong Kwai, Hang Dong, about 15 to 20 minutes by car from the Old City. We went by Bolt. Evenings are worth it for the lanterns, during the day you see the fish better.

Even the toilet is an aquarium.

Good to know

  • The pond booths fill up fast, mornings are quieter.
  • The koi are used to being fed and come straight away when you hold your hand over the water.
  • A path across the pond with cherry blossom decor and red railings, good for photos.
